Welcome to the Cave of Dragonflies guestbook.
i really loved this article!!! seeing the time of day factoring into the calculations made me wonder, though: does it make a difference if your cartridge has a dry battery???
So apparently the new layout makes the catch calculator no longer mobile friendly.
I'm glad you're finally decided to embrace this site's true calling as a means to confront your own roulette addiction. I gotta say, the new roulette minigame and layout really make my spurs go Jingle Jangle Jingle. They're a real Platinum Chip on the website's table.
They assume your Pokémon is the same level as the opponent, yeah, which seemed like the most reasonable baseline to use, given I wasn't giving you a form to input the level of your Pokémon. Though it does lead to somewhat skewed results, since it means the higher-leveled Pokémon in the location will show as having lower experience gain compared to the lower-leveled ones than they actually would in practice. Maybe I should reconsider.
How do the Gen V Locations pages handle the scaling experience formula? They still give an "Average EXP per Pokémon", but I don't know where the specific numbers comes from.
Do they assume your Pokémon is a particular level (maybe the average level of the area)? Something else entirely?
Thank you all! Very touched to hear you enjoyed this incredibly self-indulgent story, or my tutorials, or the BMF mention (we should talk!). These comments make my day every time.
I just want you to know how excited I am every single time you post more Morphic. I've read it over so many times, it's ingrained in my brain chemistry, I feel like I've grown up alongside it, I'm still beyond stoked about the eventual coming rewrite, which I feel like I will be able to more easily foist upon my friends and partners just so I can talk to someone else about it for once. Thank you for the delightful Dave torment. The art you've done mentioning it has always intrigued me.
Or rather, "Wow, I loved Dave and Mia Discuss Timeloops!"
the tutorials on your site are what got me to first mess around with HTML when I was a teenager and even though it didn't result in a complete site at the time, over a decade later I'm here again to look at those same tutorials and stylesheets as a starting point. it's really heartening to see that the cave of the dragonflies still exists after all this time :)
Oh I just knew that dave couldnt get a happy & hunky-dory ending including at the usual point any other character wouldve "succeeded" but it still hurt anyway GOOD stuff
I also love that like. Hes raging at why hes going through this. Sorry dave the answer is that god is actually ur writer & a bunch of readers rotating you in their minds going "if he was on the moon & killed or was killed by another guy with a rock would that be **ed up or what"
Happy very belated New Year!! I was opening your site to send a page to someone and I only just so happened to see this. I'm incredibly flattered to be named here, especially considering TCoD was one of my personal main inspirations for making BMF in the first place. I hope you've had a good January! I think we should talk sometime, to be honest.
Happy New Year! 2024 marks twenty years of me being in the online Pokémon community, and I'm SO glad TCoD is still around after all this time. Sad that most of the other sites from back then are gone, but I probably would have been amazed if someone told me I'd still be browsing TCoD after twenty years. This site will always be special to me.
Happy new year! It's been great getting to hang out with you and Shadey more recently. Hope we can continue that into 2024!
Best of luck to you in the new year! Thanks for being your wonderful self, in 2023 and always.
Hey Hey, a bit late but merry Christmas!!
Hey, so I’d suggest adding in an "artstyle switcher" for the Favourite Pokémon Picker, so we can switch Pokémon artworks from the Ken Sugimori art, the HOME renders, the HOME menu icons, fanmade RBG-style sprites and 8-bit pixel designs. Find good resources for each. The selection of Pokémon remains the same, but their style changes. (Why not ask someone to make gen 9 RBG-sprites)?
You saw the two new Paradox legendary beasts, right? Just switch the dinosaurs for Raikou and Entei and they’d fit your theory. Still no sign of Rainteicune though. :)
@ariel: That's actually just for historical reasons - when I first added Gen IX to the picker, Pokémon Home didn't have the data or artwork for them yet, and instead I extracted the images from in-game screenshots provided by Anubis. However, Roaming Gimmighoul was not actually obtainable in-game at all, so it wasn't among them.
I suppose there's nothing really stopping me from just adding it now. I've got other stuff to be doing, but I'll try to get to it next time I fiddle with the picker.
Listing individual Unown forms would as it stands require messing with the database structure behind the pages in a way I'm not sure I want to get into for a variety of reasons. Potentially I could add that info in the "Notes" section.
If you're doing Location Page fixes, any chance you'll list the individual Unown form encounter rates for the Location pages? Or at least for the Tanoby Ruin Chambers. I know the Ruins of Alph could be a pain as there's four separate events that affect encounter rates.
Anyway always appreciate that TCoD stays up to date even for minor info.
why isn't this Roaming gimmighoul in Favorite Pokémon Picker?
@OT: Ah, I'm sorry about that. Generally, if you want to be going in fully blind, websites can be a dangerous place to be. Generally the Pokémon I've marked as spoilers have been unreleased (there's one of those in Indigo Disk and it's marked as a spoiler so it shouldn't show up if you don't have that checked) or else more straight-up story spoilers, but with the whole DLC thing I definitely get how it's more awkward than it used to be since you can't easily just exclude the DLC Pokémon if you don't want to see any of those in particular.
Perhaps it might be worth having two levels of spoiler-marking, the unreleased-or-story level and a generic "featured in latest official release" marking (maybe with exceptions for Pokémon that were officially revealed beforehand)? Thoughts?
