Well. When I was a young Pokémon fan who went to Mew's Hangout, there was a Gym contest on that site; I made up one with the theme of "natural weapons", Pokémon with particularly prominent and sharp fangs/claws/scythes, the leader having a team of Scyther, Kabutops, Sneasel, Sandslash, Feraligatr and Fangcat (one of my fake Pokémon). Then, when I was writing The Quest for the Legends, I ended up implementing this Gym idea into the story, and chapter eleven (the equivalent of the current chapter ten) revolved around this Gym leader kidnapping the main character and using his Scyther to threaten him. This led to a conversation between that Scyther and the main character, and while creating that conversation, I fell in love with that particular Scyther's personality, which caused me to make him into a permanent character who soon became my favorite. And Scyther ascended up my list of favorite Pokémon.
I also had one on my Gold version, but I didn't really like him more than I ordinarily begin to like Pokémon when I use them in my team. He was, however, what made me originally conclude that I liked Scyther more than Scizor.

As in, showing the number of the Pokémon you guessed? That's a neat idea; I'll definitely consider adding that.
Is there any way this game could show how far off your guess was from the correct pokemon?
Reading this reminded me of that very weird period between the original release of Generation 4 in Japan and the US release.
Basically, there were people who went on and made their own "English names" for all the new Pokémon and treated them as official… which were just the Japanese names but translitterated by removing mute letters and replacing some characters. So for example Hikozaru (the creature we all know as Chimchar nowadays) was of course going to be localized as Ikozal.

I just wanted to see what pokemon I would get.
Catching it in a regular Poké Ball is definitely not the inexplicable bit in this scenario; people catch legendaries in regular Poké Balls all the time. Depending on its HP and status and which game you're playing, it's lucky but far, far more likely than finding a shiny, much less a Pokémon with perfect IVs.
I somehow caught a shiny roaming cresselia in a regular pokeball and it had perfect stats. Can someone please explainh how?
You just select Articuno/Zapdos/Moltres - if the form matters, it'll show a field where you can pick the form.
Is there no settings for the Galarian legendary birds?
