Welcome to the Cave of Dragonflies guestbook.
I wouldn't mind there being 2500 pokemon. But it would be kind of hard to complete the National Dex.

Day of Magcargo
Reign of Grounding
Season of Fire.
Eh
Fixed, thank you! I felt like I was going insane hearing the experience values weren't floored until I realized it was because of the recent backend upgrade to Python 3, which changes the default division operator on integer values to be real instead of integer division. I thought I'd found and fixed all the places I was using it, damn it.
The pre-Gen IV experience values, meanwhile, were just an oversight - the tool was originally made for Gen IV, and when I added the earlier gens sort of offhandedly because I might as well, I didn't check that they hadn't changed at some earlier point. They should be corrected now.
Roxy & Oli are actually available on Thursdays, they're over at Veilstone City's PokeCenter.
Hell yeah
Castform is badass
The per-Pokémon XP totals given in the hover text on the Locations pages (Gen I Locations and so on) are wrong.
First, and this applies to every generation as far as I can tell, it gives the experience as a decimal instead of flooring it.
Secondly, even if you mentally floor them when looking at them, some are still wrong. Specifically, I noticed Machop and Geodude in Gen I, which, on double-checking, I noticed that they're some of the handful of Pokémon whose base experience yield changed twice (once in Gen IV and once in Gen V). From what I can tell, I think it's using the Gen IV yields.
Thank you.
Some of these trainers don't show the levels they have at different points. Examples being the route 209 PKMN Breeders.
I really wish there was a proper guide showing their levels at different stages in the game, however I completely understand how difficult that is. I can say that some folk at my current stage (5 badges) have lvl 30's, like the route 209 pkmn breeders.
I've been here since August 2004, and the newest update on my first visit was titled "Stuff". This website was a huge part of my childhood (I'm 32), had a huge influence on my early writing, and caused me to go through both an "edgy Pokémon fanfiction" phase as well as a "try to sound logical on the Internet and get into debates with people" phase. I regret nothing.
I don't think I would have even ended up becoming a writer if it weren't for this site.
(Also, the Pokémon I got this time was Misdreavus, which is EXTREMELY fitting. I miss Cave Style! I will forever associate Misdreavus with TCoD.)
Sorry, I should have looked closer at your calculation; it's just I saw you wrote up the formula with no rounding, and ignoring the rounding is the most common mistake people make.
Your real problem is that at the end you're just dividing by 256 and using that result. As explained on the capture mechanics page, X/255 (255, note, not 256!) is designed to be the rough odds, but that approximation is not the actual chance and can be significantly off. Instead, read the "Throwing a ball" section on the page for what you need to do with your final catch rate X to get an accurate result. The game introduces much more significant rounding errors at that step.
this is genuinely one of the best websites ive found in a while thank you so much for this. not just for this page for the whole website
I have tried this, it seems the differential is negligible, thats why I’m confused. If you do the above calc manually even with rounding it’s still 5% off, is my formula wrong? Not trying to be awkward I’ve read the page on the catch calc breakdown including all bold text
Are you rounding down at every intermediate step in the calculation, as explained in bold at the top of the capture mechanics page?
Hey so I took an arbitrary Pokémon and its stats and plugged it into the calc.
Level 78 Fearow, Gen 3 or 4, 28% HP in an ultra ball with no status. The calc is giving me 62.424%. When I wrote my own calc it’s giving me ~57.24%, catch rate for Fearow is 90 and UB gives 2x bonus.
So equation should be:
((((3*213)-(2*59.4))*90*2)/(3*213))/256 right? (I’m ignoring the *1 for status)
That’s equalling 57.24% - am I doing something wrong?
i've gone through 30 pokeballs on a vaporeon with 11% rate… doesn't even shake once most of the time
This site is awesome!
I try to play a game of voltorb flip every day. I may have to keep applying the rules during my game until I can recall and apply them without referencing this page or my notes. These rules are super helpful.
Got one of my favorite pokemons. Yippie! Really cool website, keep it up!
Just catching up on site updates in the big 2026 and I forget if I've seen this page before but it was a nice read either way, which feels especially relevant now as someone trying to engage more via comments with the advent of all these bots lately and considering what kind of comments I'd like to get myself (in theory I wouldn't mind any kind of feedback if only to see how people feel about my work either way but I can see how it can be taken poorly with the reactions these bots are getting).
I like the idea of providing insight, mostly it feels like I've just been working with praise and impressions about the current plot but it's fun to see authors respond in kind and what they focus on from my own commentary. I do like taking notes in general and sometimes I end up spacing out my reading over time and referring to those later, also highlighting specific lines/quotes as well as elements I find personally cool like how game mechanics might get worked in.
Again I appreciate the heads up about AO3 bots since it feels like there's a large variety of these that keep coming up to discourage writers that may not know any better, or even AI generating some slightly relevant praise to trick the author into a scam, and they even make accounts now with some fake info filling up the profiles. So I'm actually trying to comment around my main fandom more with an actual account so people might better tell that I'm a real person following along and also trying to encourage the authors I've been following mostly silently for a while.
I'd also like to shout out the official advice to also report those blatant scammer/spambot accounts as spam as detailed in https://archiveofourown.org/admin_posts/33026 so that the admins can clear those accounts out from the whole site, if they are registered.
Of course! It was one of my affiliates back in the day.
Do you remember a fansite callee mewtwofans pokemon page?
Played this game at 3 AM while being severely sleep deprived, 10/10 game :)
