I honestly think Pokemon is so popular because there are an infinite number of ways to enjoy it. You can just collect the cards because they look cool, or you can learn the TCG and participate in tournaments. You can blast through the newest games with your Level 100 starter if you want, or try catching them all, learn VGC, nuzlocking…

The point is, I think calling Pokemon "childish" is kind of unfair, because the franchise has something that EVERYONE of ALL AGES will enjoy. It's universal.
