I only just stumbled on this goldmine. I have 0 artistic experience but have started spriting for fun, and I actually have been doing pixel-overs thinking I was cheating lol. So happy to know it's a known accepted strategy and there's so many things here for me to try now.
Was there ever a detailed outling-shading guide made? It's something I struggle with the most. Thanks!

another longtime fan here and omg same :D
Been using this guide to help me get back into pixel art. So far it has been a blast \(^_^)/
This guide got me into spriting back as a teenager. Started with recolors and revamps, and then moved onto splices and pixel-overs. I still use the techniques I learned here and refer back here even now. I also direct other spriters here for tips. Been working on spriting the Paldea pokemon.
This was like my favorite ever sprite guide more than 10 (15 even?) years ago and I would read it over and over. Love that it's still up and super well written!
