Awesome!!! I just checked out Serebii… HG/SS sounds amazing! I'm refusing to the check out the spoilers. I want to figure them out for myself.

At the same time, though, I'm extremely frustrated. See, I recently moved. My brother's and I's computer is still packed away in the garage. With all of my files. So now I have to use a separate login on my dad's computer. The thing is, he's an administrator and a programmer. So whenever I try to download or save ANYTHING it immediately sends it to his login. So I can't even download an emulator or ROMs to pass the time. Plus with my surgery, I STILL can't walk. I even have to write my homework out by hand, since I can't save anything! (Stupid, stupid 3-page essay…)

Butterfree:

1. First of all, where did you find this working ROM, so when I get my computer (or a Netbook, haven't decided yet) I'll be able to find it.

2. Where did you get the DS emulator? And how does it work? I only had VBA in my two week ROM spree.

3. How is the radio in HG/SS? The radio was one of my favorite parts about G/S/C.

4. Are you going to university this fall? If so, for what?

5. How are you able to read Japenese?

I remember I had got Pokerus twice; once from Greenumbeon, and once from a Mantyke.

Also, I'm not sure what I should do. Get an X-Box 360, or a Netbook? I'm weighed out some good and bad of each one:

360

Good: Has amazing games, and high-speed internet will be coming soon, so possibly means live. And only $200-$300.

Bad

Good games are rated M.

Netbook

Good: My OWN computer, my OWN files. Homework will be easier.

Bad: Half the ram of a normal computer, and only two-thirds the memory. And no disc slot. And it's $300-$500.

As you can see from my long post, I'm BORED.

The Switch FireRed is a port of the same game, so this is indeed the correct calculator you want for that! Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, on the other hand, are Gen VIII remakes and have Gen VIII mechanics; you want this calculator for those.

Tyler Willett

does this work for also the modern remakes like bdsp and the switch fire red

That would be the difficulty modifier, which makes it a lot harder to catch Pokémon that are a higher level than your Pokémon until you’ve gotten all eight badges. The calculator links to the full explanation of the entire formula at the top.

Hi! I had a question about how the calculator makes its calculations. For Gen VIII, Maractus level 31 at 35% p and using a pokeball, the catch rate based upon what level of pokémon i was using went from Lv 30 18% to lv 32 80%. I didn’t realize that such a small difference in the level of pokemon i was using could affect the catch rate, and was hoping for more insight on it because this whole calculator fascinates me :)

Hi Butterfree! Your wonderful Pokemon website has a fan who has never played Pokemon or even collected more than ten or so cards.

I'm from the Petz community (a series of pet simulation games from the 1990s) and I absolutely loved your tutorial on how to create custom quizzes. I dipped my toes into HTML coding for the first time with a silly little personality quiz on my drag-and-drop builder site, and now I've been working on incorporating more HTML. Eventually I'd love to switch to something like Neocities so I can custom-build everything (and get away from an external corporation I don't like).

Thank you so much for sharing these resources with not just the Pokemon community, but the whole world of the web. You guide is accessible, helpful, and lots of fun!

Genuinely what were they thinking in gen 1 😂 It's the first one ever so it gets a pass but normal type gust is crazy

Mesprit is so fucking ASSSS to catch. Even with statuses

LoneRocket

I had no idea the catch rate modifier on the paralyzed status effect was so low when it came to Legendaries specifically. Like its only a few points of a percentage decimal more than trying to catch it without a status effect. Sleep comparatively doubles your chances for legendaries, but even then, it only boosts it to 4%. That explains why it took 58 ultra balls to catch a paralyzed 4hp moltres. Its elemental bird brotheren weren't anywhere near as difficult to catch, but I guess the odds had just been in my favor.

Thank you mysterious website, I will keep this information in mind when I try to to catch Mewtwo without using a MasterBall. Along with… other… legendaries.

I haven't played any online multiplayer Pokémon games, no (or rather, I think I tried one for a few minutes sometime way back in the day, but that's it). I have a lot of things on my plate, and finding time to play any video game is already a matter of having to actively prioritize the game over a number of other things. I'm willing to do that for the mainline Pokémon games, which just make me happy and which play a pivotal role in my life via my participation in Pokémon fandom, and sometimes for games whose story I'd like to experience and be able to discuss with others - but I basically never play multiplayer games. I just have too many other things to do with my time!

Have you tried any of the fan made games ? I hear there is a lot and some are amazing.
I'm personally just starting an MMO one called PokeOne with my friend and we're having such a blast. Being able to do the story together, every fight in duo with a friend, trade and battle together at anytime is everything i ever wanted from a pokemon game. I always thought the games would be so much more fun with friends and now thanks to fans we have a lot of online fan games.

What's your take on multiplayer online pokemon games, have you played any ?

Eugh. I was told that the robots would at least be good at math when the uprising came.

Unfortunately that is not even the only 100% AI-generated website that has asked to affiliate with me recently. I am now all too familiar with how bad LLMs are at the Pokémon type chart; they've more or less got the single types down but the moment they start talking about type combinations they start explaining Water/Grass is 4x weak to Flying or whatever.

I assume this was in response to the LLM-powered fanart reselling "venture" asking about affiliation?

Thanks, Butterfree, for taking a stand against commodification of fans' creativity, and for keeping the lights on in the fansite community. It's a shame that the internet's gardens have gotten so thoroughly walled.

The mechanics actually work a bit differently even in FireRed and LeafGreen and are not quite as broken, so don't use this page as an authoritative reference for those games. I should probably make an actual page on those, especially with the Switch port, hmm.

Sez

Was actually looking for Gen 3 but this should pretty much work as well. Thank you very much for your service! I really appreciate it
